District to Redo Schools’ Kitchens
PALMDALE — Seven Palmdale School District schools will get kitchen makeovers next summer.
The seven schools are Cactus Magnet Academy, and Cimarron, Desert Rose, Mesquite, Ocotillo, Palm Tree and Summerwind Elementary schools.
The kitchen refurbishments are part of the Board-adopted student-centric facilities master plan.
“Many of the kitchens are over 20 years old,” Superintendent Raul Maldonado said.
The District previously upgraded kitchens at Joshua Hills, Manzanita, Tumbleweed and Yucca elementary schools.
“It’s just a beautiful kitchen. We’re going to do all of them; this is the next group of those kitchens,” Maldonado said.
The kitchens have old equipment that will be upgraded with new equipment. In addition to new kitchens the District upgraded its school menus.
“We have really added a very tasty menu so the kids will actually eat the food at the campuses,” Maldonado said.
The District’s governing Board unanimously approved the start of formal bidding on the estimated $1.38 million project at Tuesday’s meeting.
